Steve Webb

Steve Webb turned a small idea of managing the gig poster business into one of Victoria’s most successful printing companies. Webb started out working as a promoter but was unhappy with the city’s way of publizing events. He saw an opportunity and turned it into a lucrative business.
When Webb was working as a promoter he saw the need for a regulated system to control the posting of event posters.
He approached the city and the clubs in Victoria with a proposal to give him the contracts for their posters in return for managing their circulation. He would put up posters and ensure equal representation for all. It was a perfect solution. The city loved the idea and he was able to obtain contracts with every club in the city.
“For the first four years of Metropol I just walked around myself with the poster bag and hung up posters”
Eventually , someone asked him why he wasn’t just making the posters and Webb decided to pursue printing.
“I thought I would just make everyone’s gig posters” says Webb.
He had no idea the trajectory he was on. The print side of the business was purely a response to what customers wanted. At first it was just putting up posters, then it was printing posters, then it was business cards and before long, Webb was able to establish a ground level print shop. This one print shop has turned into 4 locations in Greater Victoria, including Langford.
Webb uses his entrepreneurial skills to grow and expand his business and its capabilities. The one small project that Webb pursued of managing poster circulation for clubs in Victoria has turned into a profitable company with 25 employees that continues to pursue the best of quality, technology and customer service. In the future Metropol is going to be merging into one facility and will be able to offer printing technology that no one else on the island is able to provide.
