Chris Palliser

When Chris Palliser talks about radio his passion for community and personal connection shows through. The medium of radio gives Palliser a platform to connect with people and his local community. He started his career in radio after completing his certificate in Digital Production at Camosun College. He then pursued work for various smaller radio stations in Nanaimo and Fort McMurray. His work experience in both Nanaimo and Fort McMurray set forth his passion for being involved in and contributing to his community.

Palliser has had a wide variety of experience when it comes to radio. He worked at a small mom-and-pop radio station in Fort McMurray for three years and came to love the community minded aspect of radio. Community is the central element that sets radio apart from other media forms. “There is always a place for that personal connection” says Palliser. Even when Palliser made the move to a bigger corporate owned station in Vancouver, The Beat 94.5, he remained focused on the community.

“Our whole goal is to make that one on one connection” says Palliser. His passion for community is what caused him to make the move back to Victoria. After working in Vancouver for approximately five or six years, it came time for him to get back to his roots. For Palliser the station in Victoria, Virgin 107.3 Radio, offers a different kind of community than Vancouver. The smaller size of Victoria offers to Palliser a better opportunity to connect personally to his community. Many of the marketing techniques for his morning show include slogans such as “They’re from here, they get it”. This is a major focus of his current position at Virgin 107.3 Radio where connection to his local audience comes first.  Radio as a medium enables Palliser to follow his passion of creating connections to people and his community.
